Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) stands for excellence in teaching and research, and attaches great importance to the interdisciplinary and international character of its work. The Institute of Physical Geography and Landscape Ecology aims at integrative application-oriented research and development on different spatial scales. Various process-related interrelations of landscape functions are studied with a special focus on European regions. Staff members have been coordinating and involved in various national and international research and development projects and are highly active in the Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) and the International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE). The Institute holds a considerable record of publications, research and teaching activities related to spatial GIS analyses, ecosystem conditions and services and their mapping.

Benjamin Burkhard

Benjamin Burkhard

Benjamin Burkhard is Full Professor of Physical Geography and Director of the Institute of Physical Geography and Landscape Ecology at Leibniz University Hannover. He is a geographer with a PhD in ecology and is involved in many international and national projects, research initiatives and networks. His main research focus is on landscape ecology, mapping of ecosystem service supply and demand and applications in environmental management. He is Co-Chair of the Ecosystem Services Partnership ESP and Vice President of the International Association of Landscape Ecology IALE. His publication record includes numerous peer-reviewed papers, book chapters and nine edited Special Issues and one book on mapping ecosystem services. Burkhard is editor-in-chief of One Ecosystem – Ecology and Sustainability Data Journal. His teaching activities include classes on human-environmental system analysis, ecosystem services, agro-ecology, landscape sciences and Physical Geography at BSc, MSc and PhD level.

Ina Sieber

Ina Sieber

Ina Sieber is a Junior Researcher and PhD Candidate at the Institute of Physical Geography and Landscape Ecology at LUH. She is an environmental scientists with focus on landscape ecology, water management, as well as mapping and assessing ecosystem services in the EU Outermost Regions and Overseas Countries and Territories. She is involved in various EU-funded projects, such as the ECOSEO Interreg Amazonia, the MOVE and MOVE-ON. Further, Ina Sieber is engaged in teaching activities, with focus on systems theory and modelling, geographical information systems, ecosystem services and the EU Outermost regions at B.Sc. and M.Sc. level.
