“Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) is URJC is a young public university with several campuses in the greater Madrid area, whose mission is to foster innovative research and high-quality education in one of Spain’s fastest-growing regions. URJC has managed to grow up to almost 50,000 students and nearly 1,100 lecturers, being currently the second largest among the six public Universities in Madrid in terms of students. URJC has a strong international projection, with an academic community comprising 5,000 foreigners from 60 countries.

Since 2016, URJC has been involved in more than 70 European projects with a total of EU funding up to about € 13 MM (including two Starting Grants, two Consolidator Grants and two Proofs of Concept from ERC), of which 37 belong to the H2020 Programme. URJC has actively participated in the Marie Sklodoswska Curie Actions, both acting as hosting institution for researchers, and participating in Individual Fellowships actions.

Miriam Montero

Researcher

Miriam Montero is an Environmental Engineer (2015) and PhD student by Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC,Spain), holds a Master in Renewable Energies, Fuel Cells and Hydrogen by Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) and Superior Council of Scientific Investigations (CSIC). From 2016 to 2017, she worked as Junior Project Manager in AROSA I+D consultancy, preparing study reports requesting national R&D projects grants, and managing and consulting on subsidies and tax incentives. From 2017 to September of 2020 she was Visiting Teacher in different degrees at the School of Experimental Science and Technology of URJC and predoctoral researcher in the field of Thermochemical Processes to obtain biofuels from microalgae. She worked at the Chemical and Environmental Technology Department (URJC) where she integrated several projects in the field of biofuels. Currently, she works as researcher in the field of MAES (Mapping and Assessment of Ecosystems and their Services) and Green Infrastructure in European projects such as MOVE-ON.

Fernando Santos-Martín

Fernando Santos-Martín

Activity 2 leader
Fernando Santos-Martín is an assistant professor at the Environmental Engineering Group of URJC. Since 2010 he has work as the project leader for the Spanish National Ecosystem Assessment. Since 2012 he is the official representative of Spain for the EU Working group on Mapping and Assessment of Ecosystems and their Services (MAES).
Since 2013 he is a lead author for the Regional assessment of Europe and Central Asia for the Intergovernmental Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
His current research focuses on valuing and mapping ecosystem services from its economic, socio-cultural and biophysical dimensions.
